World Cup Fever!! GO AUSTRALIA!!!!!

Article i found on Ninemsn about the Aussies win, i cant really be bothered to type all of it up myself.... mind you i was too tired to watch the end of the match and feeling defeated after Japan's goal (which shouldnt of been) i thought i would head off to bed.... meaning i missed the best part of the game......... DAMMIT!!

"Two goals in five minutes from Tim Cahill gave Australia an astonishing 3-1 victory in their opening World Cup group F match against Japan.

Cahill came off the bench to inspire Australia's first World Cup win and John Aloisi added a third for a result which defied belief. Cahill's first goal, six minutes from time, came from a goalmouth scramble — but his second was sublime
Receiving the ball outside the box he looked up, turned and lashed a swerving right foot shot into the left-hand upright, and into the net. The shot was unstoppable, and Australia, with one minute remaining, were home. Harry Kewell, a shock inclusion in coach Guus Hiddink's side after injury, said the Socceroos always believed they could peg back the deficit.

"We just kept going," Kewell told SBS. "From a set piece Tim got the goal and a bit of brilliance from him gave us the lead and after that we were all over them. We were trying all game. We've got a great squad." Earlier a 26th minute blunder from Aussie keeper Mark Schwarzer gave Japan a lead that threatened to be enough. Schwarzer appeared to be fouled when missing a cross, but referee Abd El Fatah Essam waved away his desperate appeals. The goal erased Australia's rampaging start to the match. Captain Mark Viduka went perilously close to scoring twice from close range, only to be denied by Japanese keeper Kawaguchi Yoshikatsu. Japan's best opportunity came after 20 minutes, Takahada spraying a long range shot just wide of the left hand upright with Schwarzer well beaten. At the other end Australia were continuing to create the better scoring chances.

Marco Bresciano twice went close but again it was Yoshikatsu standing between the Socceroos and a well deserved equaliser.
Searching for inspiration Hiddink turned to his bench, bringing on Cahill in the 53rd minute and Josh Kennedy moments later. A foul on Kennedy almost produced an equaliser with Yoshikatsu diving full length to prevent Viduka's blistering free-kick. In stifling 30 degree heat it was their skipper leading Australia forward. The Socceroos were finishing the stronger and John Aloisi's arrival with 20 minutes to play signalled Hiddink's intentions. It was all out attack. Three minutes after his arrival a late lunge earnt Aloisi the Socceroos fourth yellow card, a high number for 78 minutes of play, vindicating Zico's controversial comments on Australia's rough and tumble tactics. Yet it was his opposite Hiddink whose decisions proved decisive.

The introduction of subs Aloisi and Cahill proved the difference from the bench.
While his side's well documented fitness regime had the Socceroos out running and out lasting the Japanese in the games crucial closing moments. The victory was Australia's first in World Cup play, as were the goals, while Cahill's double strike left him joint top scorer in the tournament. So for at least a night, and maybe longer, the Socceroos top group F, and a spot in the last 16 seems more likely than not.World champions Brazil now await in Munich on June 18th."

My favourite players on the Aussie team (minus Harry Kewel) Mark Schwarzer, Lucus Neill and Tim Cahill

The amazing crowd

A crazy Aussie fan

The Hero - Tim Cahill

Australian finds the back of the net

And again the back of the net

This is the controversial goal, Schwarzer was so fouled and even the ref said he made the wrong decision at the end of the game!
